If you’ve spent any time running high-speed PET blow molding, you know the struggle. You’re racing against the clock, and the biggest headache is always the same: trying to get the center of the preform hot enough without torching the outside. Standard lamps usually just hit the surface. The result? Uneven walls and bottles that just aren’t right. We got tired of seeing that happen, so we built a Replacement lamp that actually fixes the heat gap.
How it actually works
Here is the secret: we tweaked the spectral output to focus on longer short-wave infrared (SWIR) wavelengths. Think of it this way. Most lamps just blast the surface. Ours push the energy deeper into the plastic. This means the core of the preform hits that critical glass transition temperature at the same time as the exterior. Everything melts uniformly. No more pearlescence. No more annoying thin spots when you stretch and blow. It just works.
The hardware side of things
You don’t need to rebuild your machine to use these. They’re simple drop-in replacements. We made sure they fit the exact footprint and electrical load of the original SMI/Husky specs. Whether you’re dealing with specific wattage or voltage, the thermal density stays locked in right where the preform sits. Plus, we use high-purity quartz glass. It’s tough. It handles those high-intensity cycles without burning out early.
A quick heads-up
There is one thing to watch out for. Because these lamps push more heat into the oven, your cooling zones have to keep up. If your airflow isn’t quite up to the task, you might notice the lamp housing getting a bit too hot. Just keep an eye on your temps.
Keeping them running
Wiring is easy. We use industry-standard connectors, so you can just plug them into your existing sockets and get back to work. But here is a pro tip: these lamps run hot to get that deep penetration, which means you can’t ignore the cleaning. If PET condensate builds up on the quartz, it creates hotspots. That’s a fast track to killing your tube. Keep them clean, and they’ll last.
