Here’s the thing about living in an RV: space is precious, and so is your power. So when we built this electric heater, we went with a direct-wire halogen infrared lamp. The whole point? To give you a blast of focused heat that doesn’t hog space or drain your batteries.
The Power, Voltage, and Size Breakdown
We set this heater up as a 400V, 2500W unit packed into a 300mm tube. Why 400V? Because running at that voltage drops the current for the same wattage. That means you can use smaller wiring, and the connections stay cooler. And that 300mm length? It keeps the footprint short. So it slips into tight spots without forcing you to redesign your whole setup.
The Design Behind the Heat
Inside, you’ve got a halogen capsule nestled in a quartz envelope. This is what gives you steady, reliable heat that kicks in fast. Then there’s the reflective coating on the tube. It pushes more energy forward, so you get that high heat density right where you need it, and less wasted warmth spilling to the sides. Plus, the R7s base is a straight-pin, double-ended design. It’s a direct swap for most common fixtures, and it handles the high temps at the ends without melting your sockets.
Built to Handle the Real World
Life on the road is rough. Your heater has to put up with constant vibration and huge swings in temperature. This design keeps the heat steady, even when things get bumpy. But here’s the catch with that kind of concentrated heat: the surrounding area and mounting hardware have to be able to take the temperature. And you’ve got to make sure the cooling path is properly set up, so you don’t overheat the parts nearby.
